Resources — Codependency

You have taken a courageous first step by choosing to ASK for help with your codependency.

There are numerous ways to get help. ASKing those around you whose recovery you find attractive is one way to start. Local, anonymous recovery groups are another good way to begin. While we are not endorsing any specific group or resource, the following links are just a few possibilities for how you can begin your search for help.

Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA)

Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACoA)

Take Me There

The term "adult child" is used to describe adults who grew up in alcoholic or dysfunctional homes and who exhibit identifiable traits that reveal past abuse or neglect. The group includes adults raised in homes without the presence of alcohol or drugs. These ACA members have the trademark presence of abuse, shame, and abandonment found in alcoholic homes.

Al-Anon / Alateen

Al-Anon / Alateen

Take Me There

In Al-Anon/Alateen, members do not give direction or advice to other members. Instead, they share their personal experiences and stories, and invite other members to "take what they like and leave the rest" — that is, to determine for themselves what lesson they could apply to their own lives. The best place to learn how Al-Anon/Alateen works is at a meeting in your local community. Personal contact is an important element in the healing process.
